ABOUT ME & CONTACT

I grew up in Phoenix, Ariz., where, needless to say, I had a lot of free time and not a lot to do. I translated my teenage angst into activities that many misunderstood teens enjoy: film, music, and high school theater. After devouring as many magazines and books as possible, it dawned on me that people get paid to write about what they love. I was never the same again.

Eventually, I left Arizona to go to college in Boulder, Colo., where a local independent student news site indulged my need to rant and rave about all things music and film. As soon as I had my English diploma in my hands, I dashed to New York to intern at PAPER Magazine, where I learned to immerse myself in New York's culture and to begin to find my voice as a lifestyle writer.

Next stop was Austin, Texas, a place that I now consider my hometown, where I really came into my own with the assistance of the lovely people at Standard Magazine (which unfortunately closed in 2013) who decided to trust a 24-year-old with managing the Markets section of their magazine. Eventually, I also took over their blog as Online Editor, managing, editing, and writing fresh content daily.

I have spent more than six years working as a higher education communications writer and strategist, working for both a small liberal arts college and a large state university. I also occasionally write about music, books, and other bits of pop culture online.
